New Study Shows Hillary Clinton’s Face Makes Women More Confident

In the study individual men and women were asked to give a speech in front of a panel of six strangers. For some there was a picture of Bill Clinton on the back wall and for others there was a picture of Hillary. Overall the men spoke longer and were judged as better speakers than the women, except for the group of ladies who spoke while looking into Hillary’s baby blues. That group blew the men out of the water as far as the length of their speeches and overall confidence and success in conveying their ideas publicly.

The conclusion researchers drew from this study was that when women are exposed to powerful female role models in leadership positions they gained instant boosts in confidence and the ability to achieve at high levels. ”Female political role models can inspire women and help them cope with stressful situations that they encounter in their careers, such as public speaking,” the authors of the study wrote. ”A lack of female powerful role models leads to a vicious circle, because if women fail to take leadership positions, they also fail to provide role models for junior women to follow.”

One time I was out with Brad and some friends, and a lady took a liking to me, and despite being very clear that I was with Brad and very happy in that relationship, she kept buying me drinks all night. She then asked Brad if he thought she had a chance with me. He told her we were pretty exclusive.

It was the first time a stranger ever bought drinks for me because they were into me, and I feel like the fact that a lady was straight up hitting on me in front of my boyfriend at a bar in Utah, of all places, says something, but I’m not sure what.

I’m sure there are people who were born in the 80s who had that toy phone (and thus in their 20s and 30s now) who have siblings who are currently six years old. But these people probably come from either Mormon/Catholic/Quiverfull families, and there are like 18 siblings, so I really doubt the six year old has an iPhone, because the family has been passing down the same pair of Levis for 17 years.

My dream is to have a bathtub like that. Although, in fancy pics of them, they always have that little soap tray thing and…I just don’t get it. I don’t need a tray for soap.

You can’t really put a book on it, because who could read from that angle? I could see it being used as a food tray, because much like shower beer, I feel like a piece of gooey cheese pizza while taking a bath would be, while maybe kind of gross to other, the ultimate in personal comfort and happiness.

New life goal: Bath Pizza. And let’s be honest, probably also a Bath Beer. I’ve got my priorities in order.

May 21st 1924: Leopold and Loeb kill Bobby Franks

On this day in 1924, University of Chicago students Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold Jr murdered 14 year old Bobby Franks. The pair killed the boy as a ‘thrill killing’ in their attempt to perform the perfect crime. However, the two were caught and put on trial. They used their wealth and influence to hire famous defence lawyer Clarence Darrow who argued the pair could not be held morally accountable because they had been raised thinking they were superior and thus are not to blame for their actions. He was successful, and the men avoided the death penalty, instead getting life imprisonment.

This is fascinating, but also terrifying, because I think someone with a really good lawyer would have a chance of using this exact same argument successfully today. I mean, lots of rich dudes have gotten away with a lot of terrible things in our recent history based on arguments that basically say this, just less blatantly.

I did 3 sets of 12 squats at 90 pounds last night!! That is definitely a record for me, in my current level of fitness, though my personal best a few years ago was 190 pounds, so…I have a ways to go before I get back there.

Not gonna lie, at first I assumed those initials stood for “Bitch In Charge” because I figured Beyonce’s chair probably says HBIC.

Took me a bit to realize it stands for Blue Ivy Carter. Unless they chose her initials purposefully……

(As someone whose initials are TLC, I could sympathize with Blue Ivy and initials that stand for something else.)

Craft vs Hobby

Yesterday, I sent a baby blanket I made to the friend with the baby, and the woman working at the post office counter in the grocery store was chatting with me about knitting.

When I asked if she was a knitter, she said she attempts it, but isn’t very good. And then went on to say that having a full-time job just doesn’t leave her enough time to really get very good at it, and maybe when she retires she’ll be able to work at it.

I was kind of insulted, because even though I know she probably didn’t mean it this way, it sounded like she was implying that I probably don’t work and just have tons of free time to spend knitting. Which is ridiculous.

I really perfected my knitting skills while I was working a 30-hr a week job and taking a full load of classes in school.

If you love something, you make the time for it. And that’s when it goes from a hobby to a craft. If I didn’t really love knitting, I definitely would have been too busy to work on my craft, because when you don’t care that much about something, you don’t want to dedicate time to it. And that’s when it’s a hobby, something you just do sometimes, not something you truly dedicate yourself to. (At least in my opinion.)

So, grocery store lady, just say, oh I try my hand at knitting but it’s just a hobby, I don’t try too hard to improve. You don’t have to make yourself feel better about the fact that I am good at knitting by implying that if only you had the time, you’d be really good too. No, you probably wouldn’t, because you don’t really want to be.

(I forgot to take a pic of the blanket, but I made the same pattern as the one I made for my nephew below, but that one is Ohio State colors, since my friend is a crazy fan.)

I’m on season 4 of Doctor Who, and I love David Tennant as the Doctor so much that I am dreading when Matt Smith takes over. I’ve never seen Matt Smith in anything, but for some reason I just kind of don’t like his face.

Although, I loved Christopher Eccelston, and I still loved David Tennant too, so I’m sure I’ll adapt. Also, I’m still not quite enough of a Whovian to known which number Doctor all those actors are. One day, I’m sure.

Got soaked this morning at the 5k! It was great though, even though my shins were absolutely killing me. I was 3 minutes slower than I was last night, which just goes to show that doing two 5ks in less than 24 hours when you haven’t done any kind of training or even just general walking a lot is kind of hard.

It was so fun to be involved in a race though, that I think I might start training and sign up for another one, and try to walk/run it!

Shower Beer

I was in the shower after getting back from the 5k tonight, and Brad popped his head in, stuck his arm in and sat a cold beer on the shelf, proudly proclaiming, “I brought you a shower beer!”

He thinks one of the great pleasures in life is to have a beer in the shower when you aren’t showering to go to work or something.

He was right. It was heavenly and felt slightly irreverent and awesome. I highly recommend everyone have a shower beer from time to time.

(Plus, he was just so cute and excited for me to experience shower beer when he brought it in, that my heart just melted. Love this man.)

Michael has so many pictures of his kids, he had to get two phones, with two numbers, and he pays two bills. He’s just so happy to have a family plan.

The way Steve Carrell giggles in that 2nd gif, I have to wonder what kind of pic he was showing Jenna Fischer while they were filming. I’m guessing something gross and/or sexual. And she has to act like she is looking at a cute pic of his kids.

At least, that’s what I’ll pretend is going on, because I love when actors try to make their fellow actors break.
